Who owns Webster Towers?
Webster Towers Inc. is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1972 with a board of directors, some of whom have been active members for many years. They are all volunteers and receive no compensation for their services.  They opened Webster Towers for leasing in 1976.

What are the eligibility requirements?
Individual applicants must be age 62 or older.  If two persons apply for an apartment, the head of the household must be 62 or older.  For persons with a mobility disability, Webster Towers can admit 10% of the community, as long as the applicant is 18 years and older and needs the accessible features of Webster Towers as verified independently by a health provider.

Are there income limits?
Webster Towers offers apartments to persons of all financial circumstances. For those needing financial assistance, subsidies are available for eligible persons through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). For those whose income is over the current income limit set by HUD, apartments are available at the current market rent regardless of income.

How many apartments are there?
There are 85 apartments:  72 one bedroom, 7 standard two bedroom and 6 deluxe two bedroom. All apartments are on floors 2 – 8 with the first floor reserved for offices and community room for programs and social gatherings of all kinds.

Do I have to sign a lease?
Yes, a one year lease is required which will automatically renew itself every 30 days after the first year, unless a written notice of intent to move is received 30 days in advance of your move from Webster Towers.

What is the difference between the two size two bedroom apartments?
The Standard two bedroom apartment was a conversion of an efficiency and a one bedroom apartment.  The Deluxe two bedroom apartment is a conversion of two –  one bedroom apartments.

How many bathrooms in a two bedroom apartment?
Two full baths.

Do I have to pay for utilities?
All utilities are included in the rent with the exception of your own telephone, cable and internet charges.

Are there any other fees associated with moving to Webster Towers?
You won’t have to pay an application fee or other move-in fees nor a lump sum or community buy-in fee. For persons with a vehicle, however, who actively drive, there is a nominal charge for parking if under lease.

Will I have to pay a security deposit?
Yes, you’ll pay one month’s security deposit based on your monthly payment as per your lease.

What type of heat does WT have?
Electric baseboard heat under your control

Are the apartments air conditioned?
Yes, there is one through-the-wall air conditioner in every one bedroom apartment and two in two bedroom apartments.  There are no additional fees connected with air conditioning.

Is it located near stores or hospitals?
Yes, Webster Towers is a half mile from downtown Scranton which boasts the Marketplace at Steamtown and many more stores, as well as being situated only several blocks from three major hospitals.  The University of Scranton is one block away and Nay Aug Park is only a half mile away.

If I don’t drive, is there a van to take me places?
The County of Lackawanna Transit System (LCCTS) has a van service which takes residents to scheduled health related appointments.   The staff also schedules the van for weekly grocery shopping as well as excursions to local shopping areas and restaurants. It is free for all persons 65 and over and very handy!

Is there a parking lot?
Yes, there is handicapped parking behind the building as well as a large parking lot.  Parking is limited to residents. A limited number of residents’ visitors may park up to 7:00 PM daily.

Can I have a dog or cat?
Yes, one pet, less than 30 lbs., is permitted.  A pet deposit is required. Please ask about specifics.

Is smoking permitted?
We are pleased to announce that Webster Towers became a Smoke Free Campus as of February 1, 2014 for all new residents, as well as for all others such as guests, visitors, and contractors.

Are meals served?
Yes, a delicious midday meal is served every Tuesday and Thursday year round for those who request it. The meals are prepared by the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania and delivered hot to Webster Towers. The charge is minimal, but the taste is great!

Is there a Community Room for residents to use?
Yes, a large multi-use Community Room is on the first floor and open for residents round the clock.

What does the Community Room include?

A computer nook with computers, a printer, and free wi-fi access

Are the computers free to residents?
Yes, they are free to use 24/7 and are all accessible to the internet.
